Advice to help you declutter without the stress ahead of a move

As a firm of removals specialists based in Dorset, we know better than most just how much time and care it takes to pack up an entire property’s worth of belongings ahead of a move. But while we are experts at packing, we also accept that it’s a very different proposition when you’re faced with moving your entire home and life elsewhere.

This can especially be the case when you are moving from one type of property to another – such as from a flat to a house, or even downsizing from a family home to one that better suits your needs now your children have grown up.

One job that many people choose to do ahead of moving home is declutter, but when you are already faced with the upheaval of a move, it can be difficult to know where to begin.

Good Housekeeping recently offered some advice about how to declutter before moving home in Westbourne, Southbourne, Bournemouth, Poole or elsewhere in Dorset – or anywhere else in the UK for that matter. At the top of the list is to start the process as far ahead of your move as you can.

The main reason being that most of us own more belongings than we realise, so starting early gives us a chance to sort through them without feeling rushed. Doing so also means that you only pay to move what you want to take with you, rather than decluttering on the other side of your move.

If you’re not sure what you might want or need in your new abode, the next piece of advice is to video your new property. This can help you work out what will fit in where, as well as remind you just how much storage space you’ll have available in your new home.

Of course, decluttering, just like packing, can feel overwhelming if you try to tackle it all in one go, so set yourself small targets along the way, such as just going through one cupboard or drawer at a time.

Although we can’t help with the decluttering, our team of specialist packers and movers are more than happy to help with the packing itself ahead of your move. We offer a full packing service in Dorset, where we spend the days ahead of your move packing all your possessions ready for moving day. We also offer a service to disconnect and reconnect your appliances and electrical items like TVs.

Our aim is to always make your move as stress-free as possible on the day, because we believe moving house should be a time of excitement, rather than one of overwhelm.

While moving is undoubtedly a stressful life event, it can feel even harder at the moment with so many other pressures around us. As an article for the Daily Mail recently noted, 74 per cent of us have felt “so stressed they have been overwhelmed or unable to cope” at some point in their lives.

The team at Removals Unlimited want to make sure moving home isn’t one of those times, so get in touch with us today to find out more about our comprehensive services that can make moving home a more enjoyable experience.
